NEWLY PUBLISHED
TRUMPER'S TEAM IN QUEENSLAND 1906
by John Hawkins The first close look at a little known tour, undertaken by Trumper as a money-making venture. In conjunction with Edwin Geach, a theatrical impresario, Trumper took a team of New South Wales cricketers, with two other Test players, on a tour of Queeensland. They played to enthusiastic crowds in mining towns like Charters Towers and Mount Morgan and ended in Brisbane, where Trumper was the first person to hit a ball out of the ground.
We have been able to discover the scorecards for each match, now published for the first time, and have also found and reproduced a copy of the original contract between Geach and Trumper, annotated by Trumper. The story of the tour is told in detail, and is followed by a facsimile reproduction of the rare souvenir brochure, published in Brisbane before the tour.
