Paper sheets, each c9¼ x 6¼ inches (c235 x 160 mm). Printed photographs. Plain backs. The name of the player and his County is printed in white in the bottom-left corner with "Supplement to "Topical Times"" printed in white in the bottom-right corner. Generally good condition, with a few a little worn and creased (notably Washbrook), with some backs a little grubby. A complete set of eight posed action photographs of cricketers issued as Supplements to "Topical Times" magazine in 1937, featuring Denis Compton, Middlesex (batting stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing Middlesex sweater), William Copson, Derbyshire (bowling action), Harold Gimblett, Somerset (forward defensive stroke), Len Hutton, Yorkshire (on-drive), Neil McCorkell, Hampshire (wicket-keeping stance behind a set of stumps, wearing Hampshire cap), Alan Melville, Sussex (batting stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing Sussex cap), Leslie Todd, Kent (batting stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing Kent cap) and Cyril Washbrook, Lancashire (hitting to leg, wearing Lancashire sweater). Although the magazine issued many sport-related cards, booklets and supplements, these were the only cricket ones. Posed batting stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing his Surrey cap. Caption in black at bottom "Abel, W.J. Surrey." Plain back. Good condition. William Abell (1887-1934) played 171 first-class matches, all bar one for Surrey (1909-26), scoring 4,988 runs at 22.98 and taking 186 wickets at 30.93. (ALLEN, George Oswald Browning). A SIGNED SEPIA CIGARETTE CARD OF 'GUBBY' ALLEN FROM THE SERIES OF "PROMINENT CRICKETERS OF 1938", ISSUED BY OGDEN'S LTD. Ogden's Ltd (1938). In batting action. Text on back. This is Card No.1 from a set of 50 numbered cards. Standard size. Signed in blue ink "G.O.Allen." 'Gubby' Allen (1902-1989) played 265 matches, including 20 for Cambridge University (1922-23), 146 matches for Middlesex (1921-50) and 25 Tests for England (1930-1947/8), scoring 9,233 runs at 28.67 and taking 788 wickets at 22.23. He captained England in 11 Tests. After his playing days he was deeply involved in the administration of English cricket as chairman of the selectors (1955-61), and with the MCC as President (1963-64) and then Treasurer (1964-76). Cricketers' issued by Esso in India in 1963 to commemorate the M.C.C. tour. Head & shoulders portrait with player's name and County team printed in lower border and a facsimile signature across the portrait. A good copy. Jimmy Binks (b.1935) was a wicket-keeper who played 502 first-class matches, including 491 for Yorkshire (1955-1969) and 2 Tests for England (1963/64), scoring 6,910 runs at 14.73 and dismissing 1,071 batsman (895 caught and 176 stumped). He also played in 30 List A matches. After making his debut for Yorkshire at the age of 19, he played 412 consecutive Championship matches until his retirement, and in 15 years missed just one Yorkshire match (against Oxford University in 1964) when called up to play for the M.C.C..
