(WARNER, Sir Pelham Francis). A CABINET-SIZE 'PINNACE' CARD OF 'PLUM' WARNER ISSUED BY TOBACCO MANUFACTURER GODFREY PHILLIPS ('CRICKETERS' SERIES CARD No.46.C.). Godfrey Phillips (1923-25). c6 x 4 inches (c155 x 100 mm). Posed batting stance in front of a set of stumps, wearing Middlesex cap. Caption in black at bottom "P.F.Warner Middlesex." Plain back. Good condition. 'Plum' Warner (1873-1963) played for Oxford University (1894-96, blue 1895 and 1896), Middlesex (1894-1920, 345 matches) and in 15 Tests for England (1898/9-1912) scoring more than 29,000 runs at about 36, with 60 centuries. He captained England in 10 Test matches and the M.C.C. on three major tours. He led Middlesex from 1908 to 1920 and served as the Club's Hon Secretary (1920-22) and President (1937-46). In 1937 he was knighted for his services to cricket. He wrote many books on the game, besides being Editor of 'The Cricketer' and cricket correspondent for the 'Morning Post' from 1921 to 1932. Medium size (c78 x 50 mm). Good condition. Signed a little shakily in blue ballpoint. He appears to have run out of space when signing his surname. Frank Woolley (1887-1978) played 764 matches for Kent (1906-38) and 64 Test matches for England (1909-34). Bob Wyatt (1901-1995) played 739 first-class matches, including 404 for Warwickshire (1923-39) and 86 for Worcestershire (1946-51), scoring more than 39,000 runs (at an average of 40), taking 901 wickets (average of 32.84) and hitting 85 centuries. He played in 40 Test matches for England, 16 of them as captain. From 1930 to 1937 he led Warwickshire and then was joint captain of Worcestershire in 1949 and sole captain in 1950 and 1951. Coloured badge printed on white silk with "County Cricket Badge" at top and "Yorkshire" at bottom. Plain back. Medium size (c47 x 68 mm). Some light creasing. The series included all 16 of the then first-class counties, as well as the badge that appears on the M.C.C. touring cap. Two sub-sets were issued: (a) with "B.D.V. From chest up, wearing blazer. Brief biographical text on back. Card No.10 from the set of 16 numbered cards inscribed on the back "Presented with The Wizard." Originally issued in a pair and then cut. Good condition. Signed in blue ballpoint "Martin Young" (a little difficult to make out against the dark background of his blazer). Martin Young (1932-1993) was a right-handed batsman who played 475 first-class matches, including 31 for Worcestershire (1946-48) and 435 for Gloucestershire (1949-64), scoring 24,555 runs at 30.69, with 40 centuries.
